Atheism isn't a lack of belief it is a belief that there is no such thing as an omnipotent god or sentient creator, that there never has been, nor will there ever be. Or at least that is how it used today; you can still have a belief in the merits of science and the potential of humanity. Belief and faith are not words monopolized by religion.

Sorry...I just kinda thought it was implied we were talking about religious belief in this thread. Atheism is the lack of belief in a higher omnipotent god/creator. Believing that there is not one is the same as not believing there is one.
